The "SENDING institution" nominates the student to Montanuniversität (= "receiving institution") through the MIRO online application platform Mobility Online.

Students selected in their home institution have to prepare the following documents in English or German and hand them in digitally through Mobility Online:

  • Learning Agreement
  • Proof of Language level (German or English min. B2)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Official Transcript of Records
  • Copy of Passport (ID Card valid only for European citizens)
  • BSc or MSc certificate: Additional for MSc and PhD students

Application Deadlines:

For upcoming winter semester:

  • Citizens from outside of the EU/EEA- territory: May 15
  • Citizens from the EU/EEW –territory: June 1

For upcoming summer semester:

  • Citizens from outside of the EU/EEA: November 1
  • Citizens from the EU/EEW-territory: November 15

GE4 Partners

GE4 (Global Education for European Engineers and Entrepreneurs) is an undergraduate exchange program with technical universities in the USA, Latin-America and Asia. Candidates have to apply at the international offices at their home university.

Freemover, who do not come from one of your international partner universities have, may nominate themselves by contacting MIRO (min. 2 weeks before the application deadline).

Marshallplan Grants

The Marshall Plan Foundation awards scholarships to Montanuniversität students who want to go on a research or study exchange trip to a US partner university. Students from a U.S.-American university can apply for an MPS scholarship at Montanuniversität under the same conditions.

Best of South-East Scholarship

"Best of South East" (BoSE) is a scholarship-programme initiated by the Steiermärkische Sparkasse, in cooperation with Montanuniversität Leoben, University of Graz, University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and TU Graz. It is an advancement and continuing education programme for talented and dedicated students from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia.

The scholarship programme lasts 12 months (from September to the end of August) and includes at Montanuniversität Leoben:

  1. A scholarship of 750 € monthly for an entire year (sponsored by Stmk Sparkasse)
  2. A scholarship for a 2-semester mobility programme at Montanuniveristät Leoben (winter and summer semesters)
  3. A 2-month trainee programme or internship (in July and August)


Scholarship-holders benefit greatly from the BoSE- programme in multiple ways:

  • Academic added value from studying at Montanuniversität
  • Career facilitation through an international internship
  • Enhancement of your chances on the job market through studying and working abroad

During the scholarship programme events and informative meetings ensure that scholarship-holders are integrated into the economic, cultural and scientific life in Styria. In order to improve your language skills German and English language courses can be attended.

Application Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Slovenian, Bosnian and Herzegovinian, Croatian, Serbian, Montenegro or the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (F.Y.R.O.M)

  • The applicant must be enrolled as regular student in a university abroad or at Montanuniversität

  • Language skills in English (level B2) or German (level B2)

  • Students need to have completed at least 4 semesters of their Bachelor programme by the time of the application

  • Very good grades

  • Doctoral students require a letter of confirmation from the supervisor of your dissertation at Montanuniversität (our office can help you to find a supervisor at Montanuniversität)

Workload of scholarship: Scholarship holder has to complete 30 ECTS in the study year (2 semesters) at Montanuniversität.
